Airsoft BBs, What BB Weight Should I Get?

Airsoft guns exclusively use 6mm plastic BBs as their ammunition. The standard size of 6mm is a universal specification across the airsoft industry. However, 6mm BBs comes in different weight.
 
Our experience with airsoft BBs is that the optimal BB weight for your airsoft rifle depends on several factors, including the rifle's power, barrel length, and the type of gameplay you'll be engaging in.

One thing to consider, the weight of the BB affects how fast it can travel through the air. Lighter BBs are faster, and heavier BBs are slower but can maintain its trajectory longer than a lighter BB. Players often choose the BB weight based on the type of gun they have and the kind of game they're playing.
 
Here are some general recommendations:
  • 0.20g - 0.25g: These lighter BBs are suitable for lower-powered rifles and are commonly used in indoor environments. They offer higher velocity and are ideal for close-quarters engagements. Most if not all airsoft fields here in the United States require to use these BBs and nothing else. Usually for airsoft guns that shoot 0.80 - 1.5 Joules. (See FPS Chart)
  • 0.25g - 0.28g: This weight range is a good balance for most airsoft rifles. It provides a good combination of speed and stability, making it suitable for a variety of outdoor and indoor scenarios. It has the weight to maintain a longer flight path or trajectory. Airsoft guns that shoot 1.2 - 2.0 Joules.
  • 0.28g - 0.32g: Heavier BBs are beneficial for rifles with higher FPS (feet per second) and longer barrels. They offer improved accuracy and stability in outdoor settings, especially if there's wind affecting the trajectory. These are used on DMR (Designated Marksman) and stock out of the box sniper rifles. 1.5 - 2.5 Joules.
  • 0.32g and above: These heavier BBs are typically used in high-powered or fully upgraded airsoft rifles and sniper rifles. They provide superior accuracy and stability over longer distances, making them suitable for outdoor, long-range engagements. 2.0 Joules and up.
 
Warning:

We advise against the use of 0.12g BBs with any of the airsoft guns available in our inventory. The majority of 0.12g BBs are not perfectly spherical and often have seams. Given the tight tolerances of many of the guns we sell, imperfections in the BBs can result in misfeeding and potential jams within the barrel.

 
It's crucial to consider the specific characteristics of your airsoft rifle, such as its muzzle velocity and barrel length, when choosing the appropriate BB weight. Experimenting with different weights can help you find the optimal balance between accuracy and performance for your particular setup.
